We are Cardiff University mental health student nurses. We are hoping to go on a journey to the Philippines Iloilo in February 2018 through 'work the world' - The UK's leading provider of elective placements, they provide a safe, structured programme that ensures maximum reward for overseas communities as well as students.

We will be working in local resource-poor community clinics providing care in areas like Ophthalmology, Dermatology, Toxicology, and Cardiology. Also working in the Animal Bite Clinics gaining insight into cases typical to Iloilo and its surrounding villages.Through working with the local healthcare teams in limited resources we will be gaining invaluable skills and experiences that we can bring back to our hometown Cardiff.

At the same time we aim to raise awareness of how mental health impacts upon individuals and families and the stigma surrounding through posting our journey on social media so everyone can share our journey with us. We will be working with local mental health charities in Cardiff to help this cause. The stigma surrounding mental health is still at worrying levels across this developing world marginalising vulnerable people and we would like to play a part in reducing this in any way we can. This once in a life time opportunity will build our knowledge and skill set giving us the tools to positively impact upon others on our journey to becoming qualified nurses.
