Story
As many will know, on Friday 3rd August 2018 our amazing dad suffered a heart attack while away on a camping holiday with friends celebrating his 61st birthday 😢
Dad is one of the fittest 61 year old men you could meet - leading a healthy lifestyle and still working a full time highly physical job that a lot of men 30 years younger would struggle with! He would do anything for anyone especially his family.
Dad is recovering in hospital, after two emergency heart operations and in true ‘grandad Al’ fashion, is amazing everyone! He is on a long and slow road to recovery - but we have no doubt he will get there! 😃
We owe our dad to so many amazing people who have contributed over the last few days, and we have been thinking of a way in which we could do something to ‘give something back’ and go some way to showing how grateful we all really are ❤️
Those who know us - will know that none of us are runners (or exercisers at all 🙈) but we have decided to enter the Plymouth 5km run on October 7th 2018, with the intention of raising money for three causes.
❤️ South West Ambulance Service - their prompt life saving action is one of the reasons our dad is still here with us - and the paramedics even took time post shift to visit him in hospital!
❤️ Derriford Hospital cardiac unit - they have provided vital round the clock care, and life saving operations with no end of smiles and friendly caring faces.
❤️ Mum and Dad - those who know our family will know how hard dad has worked, and continues to work into his 60’s, self employed, in a highly physical job, to provide us - his daughters, and now his five grandchildren with the amazing lives that we have. The children adore nanny & grandads house, and all who know mum & dad know how much that house is their pride and joy. Dad has been told that even once he is out of hospital, that he faces 3-4 months of rest before he can work again, and even then, that he will not be able to undertake the level of physical exertion that he previously did at work. They are hugely worried already, before even being home from hospital, about how they will survive without this source of income - being self employed means no sick pay 😔
We would love to raise enough money through sponsorship to be able to pay even one month of mum and dads mortgage for them, to ease the strain they are feeling, and to gift a sum of money to both the incredible organisations mentioned above - for all they have done for our family in the worst week of our lives.
Thank you so much for reading!
Lots of love
