Story

My name is Kate. My husband Darryl suffered with a heart condition which found him in the Harefield hospital for four and a half months. Sadly, he died suddenly in our home in 2012.
Our beautiful 4-year-old daughter got up in the night to go to the toilet. Darryl was carrying her back to her room when he dropped the control box to his LVAD (Left ventricular assist device) that the wonderful Harefield VAD team had fitted to try and extend his life whilst on the waiting list for a heart transplant.
Sadly, his heart failed and he died in my arms. I made a promise to myself and to him that I would become an independent woman, provide for our daughter and fulfil one of my life goals to become a HGV driver. I have already saved up and paid for my Class 2 lorry licence but my dream is to drive the monsters of the road; the class 1 articulated lorry. I would love to be able to raise some money for Harefield Hospitals VAD team, drive an articulated lorry with my daughter in the cab up to the hospital (just the tractor unit not the trailer), into their carpark and present the cheque to them in memory of my late husband.

This is where you guys can help. While I have managed to support my daughter, and managed to save for my class 2 licence I’m really struggling to fund the last bit, so I have set this page up to raise £5,000. A max of £900 would be used to fund my licence (but I will continue to save for this as well)
and the rest will go straight to the lovely people at Harefield Hospital VAD Team. They have been so supportive to me and my daughter and looked after Darryl so well while in their care, I really feel they deserve our help.

If you can afford to donate any amount that would be wonderful, and if you can’t, please can you share this with as many people as possible to spread the word of our campaign.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story!
