Story

Leon is a 14 year old boy who loves nothing more than playing football, rowing competitively and studying hard at school. Leon is like any other boy his age apart from the fact that Leon has some physical disabilities. One of Leon's disabilities is that he is an amputee. His lower left leg was amputated at 8 months and he has since undergone around 48 surgeries not just on his leg but spine and bladder also. We are trying to raise funds to get Leon a new leg at the moment he is on crutches as the skin has broken down. Leon is in need of a new leg. Because of his love of sport and his desire and determination to succeed this is very important for him. He has recently been in several rowing regattas competing against able bodied rowers and always holds his own.

We have been to the prosthetic clinic and they have advised us that yes, Leon does need a new leg and also what type of leg would be suitable for him, one so he can walk comfortably but also that he can continue competing in his beloved sport. His rowing is going so well and he is so motivated that he is being earmarked for one day hopefully competing in the Paralympics for team GB.

Leon is an amazing boy, he smiles every day and never complains about any of his difficulties. He tackles everything with dignity, courage, enormous bravery but also with such a kind and caring nature that he always feels there are so many people worse off than him.

As a testament to his character he recently went into our local supermarket and with his own pocket money bought lunch, only this lunch wasn't for him, it was for a local homeless man. He told the man he didn't want a thank you and just hoped he enjoyed the meal.

If we achieve this goal and get Leon a leg, I can assure you he will make the best of every opportunity that comes his way and it'll make an incredible difference to his every day life let alone his future sporting career.
