Story

I always try to do something for charity, or give money where I can, for example some things I have done are; participating In cancer research 5K's, attended events, cake sales, and this year is a mud run for cancer research. My biggest fundraising activity yet would be a sky dive I did for Help for Heroes.

These have all been fun to participate in, and are incredible charities however I thought next year it was time to step it up, try and do something bigger, better and completely out of my comfort zone. Something that is guaranteed to make a change to someone's life.

So, with wanting to challenge myself in mind, I decided on...

Volunteering in Africa!

In May 2018, I will be flying out to Africa with Derby County Community  Trust (DCCT) and African Adventures to volunteer for a week.

For those who don't know, African Adventures is a volunteering travel organisation which specialises in educational trips, and are dedicated to improving lives - they are partnered with 21 community educational projects in developing areas of Ghana, Kenya and Zanzibar.

My time over there will be spent teaching the children. I will be interacting with the children, assisting teachers with lessons reading, preparing meals, playing games and teaching the children sports. I will also need to assist in building and renovation to improve facilities and create more conductive learning spaces for the children.

To enable me to go on this trip, I have been set an almighty challenge of raising £ 2,000!

I’m going to need all the help I can get on this one - it’ll be my biggest target to date!

This money will go towards funding the trip and projects DCCT & African Adventures do over the week I’m there, ensuring they have all the materials and equipment they need to carry out the projects – teaching, sports, building and renovation equipment. DCCT also get a percentage of the money which goes towards their Disability Program & Health Program.

I'd be extremely grateful for any donations, no mater how big or small. I'm very excited to embark on this rewarding and eye opening experience.

Thank you,

Katelyn, xx
