The Nature Effect

The Nature Effect is crowdfunding

raised of £12,000 target by 123 supporters

Weʼre raising £12,000 to fund "Kate's Place" - a community greenspace and wildlife garden in memory of Kate Jury

19 days to go

Don't have time to donate right now?

We are hugely grateful to all those who have already supported this fund. We have twice reached our initial target and work is starting on site. All money raised will be used to develop Kate's Place - an area of Florence Park known as The NaturEscape designed by Kate with others. There will be an opening event in May 2024. Any extra money raised will be used to run activities connecting people to Nature and further developing the site. Kate was hugely active in the community – supporting people, designing and creating beautiful spaces and connecting people with Nature. Her ground breaking work with Young Unaccompanied Asylum Seekers at Barracks Lane Community Garden (the Heritage of Common Plants) and at NaturEscape Florence Park are testament to her care and passion for people, plants, creatures and simply for life! You can read about some of this on the website of the The Nature Effect CIC where Kate was also a Director.

You can read more about Kate's life and work here.

Friends and Family would like the NaturEscape at Florence Park to become a permanent legacy to Kate’s work. The City Council have agreed to renaming this wildlife garden 'Kate’s Place'. It is used used by many community groups. You can read more about it here.

We are looking to raise between £5K and £20K as a legacy fund to:

- Upgrade the pond

- Improve the pathway for accessibility and to tell a story of the site

- A new commemorative bench

- Create some Bug hotels to encourage biodiversity on the site

- Commission new signage to include a plaque for Kate. ‘Kate’s Place’

For more information and design ideas about each of these, please click here.

You can support by donating on this page. You will be invited to attend a celebration event and planting in the Spring of 2024.

Dear Friends. Thank you to everyone who has contributed so generously to reaching our target so far. Work has started on the site and huge improvements have been made to NaturEscape in Florence Park . The nursery children Flo's even had a visit from the Duke of Edinburgh and showed him some bugs whilst undertaking their forest school sessions! You can still donate to Kate's fund. Any funding left over after physical improvement will be used to sustain its stewardship and f......more on this to follow......

Now we have reached our initial target, the fund will stay open for a while longer. All funding over the target will enable us to do more to make Kate's Place even more beautiful and also to develop community activities connecting people with nature for better health and wellbeing. You will all be invited to an event in the Spring to see the site and share memories of Kate.. Further information will follow soon. With love and gratitude. The Nature Effect team.

Someone at OUP once said that Kate could see round corners! Such a brain and such energy. Inspiring. I did admire her.
