Story
We are hugely grateful to all those who have already supported this fund. We have twice reached our initial target and work is starting on site. All money raised will be used to develop Kate's Place - an area of Florence Park known as The NaturEscape designed by Kate with others. There will be an opening event in May 2024. Any extra money raised will be used to run activities connecting people to Nature and further developing the site. Kate was hugely active in the community – supporting people, designing and creating beautiful spaces and connecting people with Nature. Her ground breaking work with Young Unaccompanied Asylum Seekers at Barracks Lane Community Garden (the Heritage of Common Plants) and at NaturEscape Florence Park are testament to her care and passion for people, plants, creatures and simply for life! You can read about some of this on the website of the The Nature Effect CIC where Kate was also a Director.
You can read more about Kate's life and work here.
Friends and Family would like the NaturEscape at Florence Park to become a permanent legacy to Kate’s work. The City Council have agreed to renaming this wildlife garden 'Kate’s Place'. It is used used by many community groups. You can read more about it here.
We are looking to raise between £5K and £20K as a legacy fund to:
- Upgrade the pond
- Improve the pathway for accessibility and to tell a story of the site
- A new commemorative bench
- Create some Bug hotels to encourage biodiversity on the site
- Commission new signage to include a plaque for Kate. ‘Kate’s Place’
For more information and design ideas about each of these, please click here.
You can support by donating on this page. You will be invited to attend a celebration event and planting in the Spring of 2024.
