Last July we lost our bull mastiff. The house felt so empty without her despite having another dog and two little girls. I had been looking on the internet for a while at puppies, teasing my husband and myself. One evening, I came across a picture of this adorable dogue de Boudeaux cross puppy, near enough the same colouring as our bull mastiff. I contacted the owner who said that the puppy had just been returned as he didn’t get on with the person’s other dogs after just 20 minutes. That same evening my husband made the 6 hour round trip to collect him and his life with us started. Cwtch settled in well and was constantly hounded by our 3 year old for cuddles. Despite his size, he truly is a gentle giant. He is so placid and even rolls on the ground when another dog has a go at him. When he looks at you with his brown eyes it just melts your heart. Cwtch has uncanny resemblances to our bull mastiff, he sits in the garden in exactly the same spot she used to and in exactly the same position. When he’s had enough of fuss then he’ll retreat to his bed in the kitchen. We noticed cwtch walking a bit strangely around 4 months old and the vets told us to keep an eye on him. At 8 months old he stopped putting his weight on his right leg. A night in the vets and some x-rays they diagnosed him as having hip displasia, badly in his right hip and only slightly in the left. As he is such a big dog, weighing in at 50kgs, the only real option for him is a total hip replacement which will cost between £9,000-£14,000. We have dog insurance but not enough to cover the treatment he needs. Unfortunately, if we cannot raise the funds then our 8 month old gorgeous boy will not see his next birthday as we wouldn’t let him suffer in pain. Any donations, no matter how small will give our Cwtch a fighting chance.
