I recently read a story in which a 70 year old man was knocked down and was in a serious condition in hospital. What I didn't know at the time was that I knew the man. Joe is husband to Kathy and Dad to Carole who most people in Kilwinning will know from running Kathy's cafe in Kilwinning Main Street.

Joe, Kathy and Carole help out the local community in so many ways. They are a place for people to come to that helps them to get out and about and breaks up the loneliness for many elderly people in our community. They are the people who will order the taxi so that the less mobile customers can get picked up at the door and also walk those customers to the taxi if needed.

As soon as I knew who was involved I also realised that this cafe being closed while Kathy and Carole keep vigil at Joe's bedside is the sole income for this family. The only thing worse than knowing what they are going through is knowing that they are probably worrying about how to make ends meet at the same time. I wanted to do something to help them out and I hope that there are others in Kilwinning and North Ayrshire who will want to help them out too.
