Story
Hello! My name is Katie, I am 16, a student at the Perse, and I live around the Cambridge and Royston area.
This summer I’m raising £1000 to support local and global education and science charities, because I believe that youth empowerment is one of the most effective ways to tackle climate change and biodiversity emergencies worldwide.
These causes are very dear to me as I am deeply concerned about the dwindling biodiversity in my local area, and the widespread impacts of climate change on communities, ecosystems and future generations all over the world.
Rather than staying hopeless, to contribute to these causes I have pledged to run 100km in my local community throughout the month of September to raise money for charities that are helping tackle global environmental issues.
This running is part of a bigger campaign : the GYC 1000km challenge - a global movement where young people commit to walking, running, cycling, or paddling 1000km, collectively raising funds and awareness for climate action.
All funds raised will go directly to the Global Youth Council on Science, Law and Sustainability (https://harmonyyouthvoices.com/) and the UNEP World Conservation Monitoring Centre (https://www.unep-wcmc.org/en), as charities working to empower youth, promote education about sustainability solutions and mobilise science to protect nature.
I will be documenting my journey throughout the month of September, so please do follow along! Any help you can give - whether that be donating or sharing my story - would be deeply appreciated.
Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my page and read about my cause.
