You most likely know the story by now. But here's an explanation:

According to the judgement, Katie Hopkins sent a tweet including Ms Monroe's twitter handle asking if she'd 'scribbled on any memorials lately.' Although Ms Monroe says that this was deeply upsetting and damaging to her reputation, she continued to tweet Ms Hopkins and retweet the original tweet to her followers. If Ms Monroe was so worried about the damage to her reputation, why retweet the tweet to all her followers?

Ms Monroe demanded that Katie apologises and admit she had got the wrong person and pay £5000 to the refugee crisis. Ms Hopkins deleted the tweet and tweeted that she had got the wrong person. This, however, was not acceptable to Ms Monroe.

I've started this page as, although I don't necessarily agree with everything Katie says, I'm sick and tired of people thinking their feelings somehow have rights. Katie made a mistake & rectified it, but she still got taken to court. If the roles were reversed would everyone be quite so happy about the result?

Katie's no saint, but free speech needs to be protected. If you can accidently include someone's twitter handle in a tweet, delete that tweet and say you made a mistake, and STILL be prosecuted against, well, we could all be in deep trouble at some point.
