Story
This 100km challenge isn’t really about the distance.
I’m raising money for Stronger Together Through Cancer CIC, a community interest company supporting micro business owners across Kent and Medway who are trying to keep life and work going while navigating a cancer diagnosis.
Behind every micro business is a real person. Often a parent. Someone doing the school run, dealing with washing piles, dinner-time tantrums, and trying to hold it all together. Someone who started their business to create something meaningful, to help others, to make a small difference in the world by offering what they do best.
Then cancer arrives.
Income drops. Costs rise. Energy disappears. And yet the business doesn’t stop needing attention. There’s rarely sick pay, rarely a safety net, and very little support designed specifically for people running a business alongside their cancer journey.
The reality is that around 55% of micro businesses close following a cancer diagnosis. Not because people don’t care enough or try hard enough, but because they’re carrying too much, with too little support.
After meeting the founders, Adelle and Fiona, and hearing their lived experience, I realised just how necessary this work is. Stronger Together Through Cancer exists to offer the kind of support that so many micro business owners are missing, practical, personal, and rooted in understanding both business and the human behind it.
This cause feels deeply aligned with the work I do. So much of what I see comes back to people pushing through, putting themselves last, and carrying on because they feel they have to.
By taking on this challenge, I want to help raise awareness and funds for a cause that reminds us there is always a person behind the business, and that support shouldn’t disappear when life gets hard.
Thank you for supporting this challenge and the work Stronger Together Through Cancer are doing.
With love,
Katie
