I am 16 years old. I have recently been told that i got onto an amazing trip to go to serbia to do volunteer work. Only 2 out of around 25 girls got onto this trip so I'm very pleased and excited.

The volunteer work I'll be doing there is things like removing invasive plants, building paths and painting bird watch towers as the area I will be working on is an important bird area and a protected area crucial to the Danube river basin, all the work will be outdoor work for 6-8 hours each day. I will be staying in serbia for 8-10 days. We will be staying in different hostels. The aim of the trip is to increase tourism therefore boosting the local economy and the lives and businesses of those who live there, this is going to be achieved by "doing up" the local attractions like the bird areas etc.

This opportunity was available to me through girl guiding UK.
I have to fundraise myself £1500 before i leave next summer, this includes transport costs, sleeping arrangements, food, and vaccinations

Serbia is a poor country located in south-east Europe next to counties like Bulgaria, Croatia, Romania.
