I've raised £20000 to Funding Specialist Brain Tumour Treatment

Katie was diagnosed with an aggressive Grade 3 malignant meningioma in October 2014 at the age of 30. She underwent brain surgery at the St.Georges Hospital Specialist Neuro Centre (Atkinson Morley) London in November 2014 which left her paralysed and bed-bound for over a year. After her first brain surgery it was believed she would not live to see another year. Through the brilliant work of the NHS, St.Lukes Cancer Centre, her neurosurgeon, Mr Simon Stapleton and currently the Royal Marsden Cancer Centre - years of gruelling treatment for a further four tumours including radiotherapy and CyberKnife alongside her pure determination to live Katie, has exceeded our expectations. We have been fortunate to have her with us much longer than first anticipated, despite her terminal diagnoses. During Katie's illness she has manged to get married, lost 8 1/2 stone in weight resulting in winning the slimmer of the year in her local slimming club. The love and support of her husband Steven, her two dogs and cat (Harley, Molly and Socks) who she adores, plus her love of all things Christmas has kept Katie focused throughout her illness.
Unfortunately Katie has now come to the point of her illness that she has been given months to live, she is just 37. However, there is a treatment, not a cure, currently unavailable on the NHS called Bevacizumab (Avastin).
Bevacizumab targets a protein called vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) that helps cancer cells grow a new blood supply. Targeting VEGF reduces the supply of oxygen and nutrients so that the tumour shrinks or stops growing. Treatment needs to start as soon as possible to give Katie any chance of further life expectancy which is why this crowdfunding page has been set up as with help from family and friends Kate can continue her fight.
