Story
I am currently volunteering at Hope Agency, a volunteer ran school in Bakod Village, Takeo in Cambodia, teaching English to 350 under-privileged kids in the village for free. By doing this it improves the chances of the children going to university and get a decent job, whilst empowering women and helping to develop this poverty ridden village.
Money raised goes towards the upkeeping of the school e.g. resources, electricity, water to make sure they can continue to provide the vital education that it currently does. Aditionally we raise money weekly to buy new bikes for the kids so they can easily attend school, for only £40 we can buy a bike which can change a childs life!
As well as giving these children a good education, we support the local people of the village by providing them with food via the food bank which we fund, as well as taking then left over dinner every single night. These families simply cannot afford to feed thenselves and their families, basic health care, clean water or electricity, and rely on our donations, which is why your donations are vital.
Bellow are a few stories of the families in need kn the village:
Kendob and her Mother:
Kendob is a 16 year old teenage girl, with aspirations to go to university, however, she lives with just her mother, with their only source of income being shells which they collect from the rice fields and sell at the local market. This barely covers the cost of their basic food needs. The majority of their quaters and essentials have been donated by other locals, but they have no running water and no bathroom. They drink mainly rainwater and shower in the same water using buckets.
Kendob is hard working and extremely bright. She now attends Hope School for extra English lessons.
So far we have managed to buy her a motorbike so it no longer takes her over an hour to get to school. We have also provided electrictiy, fixed their roof, and provided a mattress for Kendob and her Mother to sleep on.
As we raise more money we hope to get Kendob to University, ans for her mother to be more integrated in to the community by the time this happens. We will do this by making sure Kendob has adequate opportunity to study, funds for education, as well as food packages every month so they dont have to worry about feeding themselves. We also would like to build a toilet in their home.
Nhor:
Nhor lives with hee husband near the temple. When she was younger she was very affluent, however her children have since sold her land, taken her money and left her with nothing. She now lives in a 1 room hut with no kitchen or bathroom. They have no source of income and Nhor suffers from a lot of medical issues which she needs a lot of medication for.
So far we have provided medication for her problems and gvien them food packages every month.
As we raise more money we would like to build Nhor a bathroom and come up with a way to make her and her husband more self-sifficent.
These are just 2 of the many families that we help out in the village, i really hope their stories have touched your heart as much as they have touched mine and make you want to help give them the better life they deserve.
Please share this to raise as much awareness as possible and to help raise enough money to help support this village! Thank You!
