I've raised £1000 to Raise as much as possible to volunteer in a school in Kenya to build new facilities and help teach life skills to underprivileged children.

My name is Katie, and I am part of the group of students at the Romsey School, who are hoping to embark on a life changing volunteering trip to Kenya with African Adventures .
My group and I aim to travel and stay at Nakuru in Kenya, for our project to support an underprivileged Kenyan school. We will be working on this for two weeks (with the exception of a weekend Safari away) where we will divide into two groups; volunteers to build new school buildings and volunteers to socialize and support the children.
Free education is something we are very fortunate to receive here, but take it for granted. Most Kenyan schools cost money to enrol at, even though money for the families is scarce. If the children are lucky enough to attend, the fees often take a toll on their family’s living, so children of these schools will often have their most nutritious meal of the day at school. However, some of the money we raise will pay for these life-changing school meals, so we will not only be supporting their education but their well-being too. Children of the most deprived areas have been known to live on/close to rubbish sites, which we aim to visit to support the local community.
This opportunity means a lot to me because I think it's important to help people, no matter far afield. If you donate to this cause, you will be helping the children of the school be fully fed and educated, something that should be experienced by every child.
The total amount I am attempting to raise is £2380, and so far I have raised around £1000, through birthday money, doing jobs for Dad and jumping into the (very, very cold) sea on Christmas eve! I have planned to do a car wash and a coffee morning in summer too. A donation here of any size will really help me on my way.
A donation doesn't have to just be money - If you can help me with anything else, such as venues to host a fundraising event, offer something to sell (be it cakes, old stuff etc.) or even advice (especially for writing letters!), I will greatly appreciate it. You can contact me for this, or if you would like any more information at the email Katie2Kenya@yahoo.com.
