Story

My name is Katie Hutchinson. I have just finished my first year at Brighton University studying Physical Education. During my time at University, I was lucky enough to learn about Football 4 Peace, which is an organisation run by the university to provide the catalyst to intervene where cultural conflict exists. After researching it, I decided that I wanted to be part of the team, and I was fortunate enough to gain a place on the program.

My aim is to raise £800 to be able to travel to Gambia in December 2018 for two weeks, as a trained Tier 2 Community Coach. Along with other volunteers, we will be delivering various sessions to young children, aiming to display and teach the key values of sport which are: inclusion, social contact and peaceful coexistence. As well as enhancing the key values of Football for peace (F4P): trust, inclusion, equality and respect. Our main goal is to teach these values, which will impact on the young children leading them to transfer the skills into their everyday life. A main cultural difference in Gambia is the collision of different tribes, creating conflict between the children. By using football, we aim to unite the children and build long lasting friendships.

Thank you for taking the time to read my page, if you want anymore information about the organisation please visit: http://www.football4peace.eu/
