Story

Last month we raised money to set up a new kitchen at the SGCP school near Kathmandu, Nepal; the only special needs school in the Kathmandu Valley. That kitchen is in the process of being set up. So, we asked Bimal, our contact there, what the school needed most now. He gave two answers, one of which was "medicine". This has to be paid for by the parents, many of whom have enough to do keeping body and soul together in one of the poorest countries in the world. The school does an incredible job of reaching out and caring for children with all kinds of disabilities many of whom would not survive without their help while the quality of life for those who do get by can be very desperate indeed. And the cost of providing this medication? Two hundred pounds a month. I'll repeat that, just two hundred pounds a month. I put that much diesel into my car some months. For the same money we can be reducing the frequency and intensity of epileptic fits for some kids, taking away or reducing the intense pain for other kids or maybe maintaining a life giving rhythm to somebody else's heartbeat or breathing. Through Justgiving we can pay the monthly medicine bill and build up a reserve to keep the medicine flowing, freeing the parents to find more money for the other essentials in life for all the family.
