3 year old Katy Davis has been diagnosed with juvenile xanthogranuloma – an extremely rare brain condition of which little research has been done. She has a lesion on her brain in an extremely precarious place and operating is extremely dangerous.
There is a 50-50 chance of the lesion growing, but there are treatment options if it does. If the family were to remain in the UK the only options would be chemotherapy and a brain operation which would require surgeons to cut into Katy’s brain.
However, if funds allowed, the family could travel to the United States, where Katy would receive treatment which would involve lasering the brain. This would be a lot less traumatic and risky for Katy.

Others in Weston are already starting to raise money to help get the family to the USA if the lesion grows (a 50/50 chance of this happening) and to pay for the treatment so we’d love the local community to dig deep and come together to help make this a reality. If the lesion doesn’t grow and treatment is not required, or not enough money is raised, what has been raised will be donated towards research into this little known disease.
