Story
As some of you may know, on trips to Amman, I visit a centre for Syrian refugee children who have been severely traumatised by what they witnessed in their home country before they had to flee. Many of these children have seen their fathers killed, their mothers raped; things no child should ever see.The centre is purely psychosocial and the children receive intensive counselling and therapy. On my first visit, I noticed one child who didnt smile and stood against the wall but after some coaxing she came and stood next to me. I just knew there was something different about this child but couldnt work out what it was. I thought the child was a boy but in fact she is a girl.It was a few visits later that I found out that Rosa born with Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia, internally she was female but on the outside she had male genitalia. She had exceptionally high levels of testosterone but they managed to get it under control with medication but due to fleeingSyria with her mother after her father and brothers were taken by Assads regime, they had no access to the medicine she needed sohe started to grow facial hair and grew rapidly and her voice deepened drastically. The stigma attached to her condition caused her to become aggressive therefore she was referred to the centre. She has done so well with counselling but the stigma of her condition was still there. She was taken to drs who did chromosome testing and it has shown she is 100% female so they stressed the importance of her having immediate surgery to remove the male organ and reconstruct a vagina to be attached to her womb. They need to start her on oestrogen now to counterbalance the testosterone which has now been levelled out.The cost of the surgery was $20,000. She had the surgery 3 days ago and has been so brave. We raised some of the money for the surgery but it has now run out and she needs aftercare. This little girl has been thru so much in her 7 years, I want her to have the care she needs. Please give anything you can
