Story
Mrs Cawley's Little Stars.
Our Mum, Kay, has recently lost her battle to Cancer. Our Mum was incredibly supportive and giving to us and everyone around her. Her motherly instincts reached much further than me my Brother and Sister, and into her place of work, Collingwood School.
Her role within the school allowed her to help so many children over the 16 years she was there. She would listen to the children she worked with and provide them with the emotional support they needed. As well as emotional support, she would go beyond her duties to provide experiences for the children, taking them on trips to farms, organising activity days and at Christmas, taking a handful of kids to see Santa. Over the years she has helped to provide uniform for families, baked birthday cakes, gave toys, done the football run, and so much more, both in and out of work hours.
After speaking with the school, we have explored the idea of setting up a fund that the staff at Collingwood School can use to help out the children and families that would benefit from the type of the support that our Mum gave. In setting up a fund in this way, it also ties in with the restorative and nurturing nature the school identifies with. Being a primary school, Collingwood has limited funds available to spend in this way and raising funds in our mums name allows us to carry on and provide even more of the crucial support she gave and leave a meaningful, positive and effective legacy. Our mum expressed the dream of the school having their own mini bus which would have allowed her to provide more experiences and opportunities to the children and families who need them most. Although ambitious, we are hoping to be able to raise funds to get the school a mini bus it would benefit so much from, amongst raising funds for years to come to provide other crucial support in many other ways.
Myself, my Brother and Sister are currently working closely with the school in developing a foundation and will carefully decide how the funds will be spent, ensuring the funds will provide a positive impact on the children and families lives who would receive the support in our Mum, Kay Cawley's name.
