Story
Kay was an extraordinary force to be reckoned with. When she set her mind to something it would be done. She glowed with vitality and life and she swept us with her. When she moved back to Treherbert she got involved in a million things but one place that was close to her heart was the Phoenix Centre and we would like to support them in some way:
We are planning a walk in Kay’s memory, on Sunday 15th July 2018 to take place in her home town of Treherbert
We would very much like you to join us for the walk to remember Kay. If you are able to contribute directly or if you would like to collect sponsorship we have a figure of £800 in mind. If you would prefer to simply turn up and join us as we remember that wonderful woman then we look forward to seeing you.
Please email 2mirandaellis@gmail.com to confirm that you will be attending – we don’t want to set off and leave anyone behind – and we’ll email details to you.
Kay volunteered with the Community Cinema which is owned and run by a local charity; the aim is to make cinema going affordable and accessible so that people can have wider and imaginative experiences.
The Cinema keeps their entry fees very low - a family ticket for 5 costs just £9. They positively invite and cater for service users of the various day centres, and they run matinees so people without cars can come along via public transport. They also provide a children's' book corner in the foyer, encouraging children to share and swap books.
They have been providing free and subsidised fruit to cinema goers as a healthy alternative and even the popcorn is a health conscious brand.
They would like to further with future projects by running craft sessions and screening some less well-known and non-commercial films. Currently this project is funded by local people and individuals and we would like to support them in memory of our lovely friend Kay.
