Story
At Karen's Cat Community, we are dedicated to providing care and support for the many cats who come through our doors. As a small, mother-and-daughter-run rescue based in the heart of Wales, we are committed to the well-being of each cat, whether they are in need of a forever home or are part of our sanctuary.
However, as the year progresses, we have already incurred a staggering vet bill of £2554.69, and we still have 10 months to go. This amount includes vaccinations, neutering, microchipping, and ongoing medical treatments for our sanctuary and rescue cats. Here’s how we’ve spent this so far:
- Misty – Treated for ongoing stomach issues, stool tests, and antibiotics.
- Chrys, Azalea & Iris – All vaccinated, neutered, and microchipped.
- Jess – Hospitalised for a week at the beginning of the year, requiring various antibiotics and treatments.
- Hanson – Needed tests and antibiotics for an illness.
- Ernie – Requires ongoing gabapentin for chronic pain relief due to a past injury.
As a small rescue, we have not been as busy with new intakes this year, but we still have 9 sanctuary cats, many of whom have disabilities or special needs requiring extra care. We’ve also had to step in for an emergency surrender, which adds to our already high vet bill, including neutering and other necessary treatments.
We need your support now more than ever to ensure that we can continue providing the essential medical care these cats need. We are incredibly grateful for all the support we've received over the years from our followers on Facebook and TikTok, as well as through fundraising efforts. We could not carry on without your help. Every donation, no matter how small, goes directly towards paying down our vet bill and ensuring that all of our cats continue to receive the best possible care.
We remain closed to new rescues for the time being, but our work with our sanctuary cats and emergency situations will continue. We are also focused on our long-term goal of becoming a registered charity and expanding our facilities so that our rescue cats have their own space outside, free from the stress of sharing rooms with other cats. This will allow us to reduce cross-contamination and ensure that we can continue helping the cats who need us most.
Please, help us keep our sanctuary running and ensure that our cats continue to get the care they deserve. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your continued support!
