Story

On Friday 11th July, Pippa received the heart- breaking diagnosis that she has terminal cancer. As you can imagine, the news came as a complete shock. In just a few short weeks, her world and the world of her partner, and two young children, has changed in unimaginable ways.

Pippa has a rare mutation of lung cancer called EGFR, which most often affects non-smoking women under 60. Tragically, the cancer has already spread extensively to her spine, ribs, liver, pelvis, and lymph nodes. She is now using crutches and a wheelchair due to the risk of fractures and paralysis. Despite this, she is meeting each day with strength, bravery, and grace most of us can only aspire to.

She has started treatment, including radiotherapy, targeted therapy, and soon, chemotherapy and is preparing for surgery on her hip this week. Through it all, her focus remains fiercely loving and positive: to give her children, as normal and joy-filled a life as possible for as long as she can.

Pippa is determined to live fully and make happy memories with her soulmate, and her children, If you’ve ever met her, you’ll know what a special, strong, and vibrant soul she is. Even now,

Fundraiser is a way for all of us, friends, family, the local community, and even strangers moved by her story to give something back to a woman who has given so much love and light to others.

She can actually use the funds in ways that bring her joy, peace, or comfort.

So, in my admiration of Pippa’s courage and in a show of strength, solidarity, and maybe just a bit of madness — Vickster (my loyal training partner who’s always there to push my aging body) and I will be taking on a full Olympic triathlon at the end of this month… with zero training.

That’s 1.5km swim, 40km bike, and a 10km run — powered entirely by willpower, stubbornness, and a lot of love.
