Don't have time to donate right now?

    Story

I'm doing this not for charity, but in honour of our mum.

Those of you who weren't lucky enough to have met her, wouldn't know how much joy she had in helping others.

I remember years ago when my mum had told me about her fight with anorexia and the problems that arose with the condition and how determined she was to help others. She had spent hours upon hours writing about her story and how she dealt with the problems and how she eventually beat it.

Determined to get her story published in hopes of helping others who suffer from the condition, she sent her story to many magazines and newspapers both local and widespread throughout the UK.

Thankfully a magazine publisher had bought her story and offered to pay her for it but she unselfishly rejected the money and instead asked the publisher to donate the money to Cancer Research as she was a great advocate for the charity and many others.

She was a carer all her life from the age of 15, caring is the only thing she had a passion for. After 15+ years of working at nursing homes for the elderly which she always loved it wasn't until her health deteriorated that she had to leave which had broke her heart.

Our Mum had sacrificed her body through the years spent caring for others even when doctors told her she was medically unfit to work but she still carried on caring through sheer passion, unfortunately our mums health continued to deteriorate with her spine. She had surgery on her spine to try to ease her constant pain and this had let to her being off work for several years.

One day she had heard of a little boy in our local community who was born with a rare genetic disorder called 'NKH'. I have attached a link to a website explaining the condition if you would like to find out more https://rarediseases.org/rare-diseases/nonketotic-hyperglycinemia/

She approached the family and asked with their permission if she could do some fundraising on their behalf as the condition is extremely rare in the UK, mum being mum who is petrified of heights decided to throw herself out of a plane for his cause.

When she approached the skydiving team in Swansea they explained that the cost of the skydive would be deducted from the charity money raised in which she said "no way I'm paying for this skydive myself as any money raised will go directly to the family"

Next came the medical questionnaire and what flagged up?, yes you guessed it her back surgery and they told her that she would have to gain support from her GP and this became no easy feat as she had back surgery and numbness throughout her body so her GP was reluctant to sign her medical form for the skydive, but my mum had insisted that the GP had to sign it and through pure persuasion had that certificate signed.

So our mum done the skydive raising over £1000 for this lovely little boy which was then used by the family of the little boy to purchase multi-sensory equipment to help stimulate him.

At the time that she was doing the jump, we as a family had our hearts in our throats, we remember thinking "Oh my god you're nuts!" A link to the skydive video is provided below

After she had completed the skydive it seemed to give mum a sense of purpose again and she decided that even though she could not return to elderly care for medical reasons she decided to chose a different route in the care field.

Mum then applied for a job as a mental health support worker, she was successful with her application and was ecstatic to be given a new opportunity in the care field. Mum was extremely passionate about her work as she had also cared for her own mum who suffered with mental health problems.

After working there for 2 1/2 years her health took another turn for the worse, she was suffering from severe chronic back pain which were so severe that she was blacking out with the pain, this resulted in her having to take long term sick from her workplace in hope that things would improve.

During her time off work mum became a volunteer for the 'IPC ATHLETICS' now known as 'PARA ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIP' In Swansea on the 18th-23rd of August 2014. Mum was in awe of the incredible athletes that she met which included the likes of the 'blade babe' Marlou van Rhijn. Pictured below

Unfortunately her health never improved and resulted in her having to leave her job which upset her greatly as she felt her passion to help others had come to an abrupt end.

Due to her ill health mum struggled to accept that she had to use a electric wheelchair as to her, she felt that it was the end of her working life.

Then unfortunatley she suffered a massive brain haemorrhage in the early hours of Thursday 18th of January 2018 she bravely fought until Sunday 21st of January. Mum was a massive advocate for caring and charity work and she wanted to continue this after her passing therefore donated her organs and as a family we find peace in knowing that with the organ donation she has helped atleast 7 people at having a second chance of normal life.

As everybody would agree that our beautiful mum and wife to our father at the young age of 42 crammed so much caring and love into this world aswell and we're extremely proud and want everybody to shout her story from the rooftops of this incredible lady.

These are just a few examples of her kindness and unselfishness for others and some of the many wonderful things and she had done for the sake of other people.

We believe that it would be a nice gesture if others could show her the kindness and support that she showed many others by raising funds in memory of this incredible woman.

All proceeds will go towards helping pay for funeral costs.
