Story
At 65 years old, I am still passionately competing on the international chess stage, driven by a dream to make one final, determined push for the top senior titles in Europe and the world. When FIDE introduced the 65+ and 50+ senior categories, I embraced this new chapter wholeheartedly. At 53, focusing on the 50+ cycle, I achieved a historic milestone by winning the European Senior Championship with support from the English Chess Forum - becoming the first English player ever to claim a European title at an adult level.
Later that year, I shared first place in the World Senior (50+) Championship with an impressive score of 8.5/11 against renowned Grandmasters.
Though I narrowly missed out on the title due to tie-breaks, this remains one of the strongest performances in the event’s history. Now, as I prepare to compete again in both the European and World Senior Championships in the 65+ category, I see genuine opportunities to claim these prestigious titles.
However, competing at this level comes with significant costs — travel expenses, entry fees, and accommodation — which are beyond what I can manage alone. This is why I am reaching out for your support. I do not seek assistance because I believe my place is guaranteed; rather, because with your help, I can give this final effort everything it deserves and continue striving at the very top of my category.
If you are able to contribute any amount towards my target of £3,400, it will directly enable me to participate in these championships and chase these dreams. And if donating isn’t possible for you right now, simply sharing this page would mean a great deal to me.
Thanks loads for taking time to read my story and for any support you can offer on this inspiring journey.
