Weʼve raised £2,336 to give my dad speech therapy and a medical treatment called Vitalstim. Hopefully allowing him to swallow and drink again.

Story
My dads a massively proud man and wouldnt ask anyone for anything. But he is in need at the moment. So if you go into the pub this weekend and buy a round... think of my dad and perhaps put the cost of the beer you might have bought him to this funding page. Please don't feel that you have to donate large sums, the cost of a pint from loved one's is all we are asking.
My dads life has been shattered by a brainstem stoke leaving him unable to swallow, sometimes even his saliva is too much. The NHS provision for Speech and Language provision is very small, his 2 sessions a week of therapy already being cut down to a 'when they can' care in the community approach. We would like to fund for him to have more regular and intensive therapy to help regain his swallow. As well as exercises daily this would include a treatment that is widely available in the US (less so here) this treatment uses vibrations which should kick start the muscles into working again, giving him back his swallow. Its a private treatment and its expensive but reading the research we have on it we think that it is worth the gamble to help him get his life back.

6 years agoIt's been a year today since my dads stroke and I wanted to post an update. His treatment and hard work has seen a massive improvement in his condition. He now doesn't need any food or drink via the Peg feed he was fitted, something I don't believe we would have seen with NHS care alone. There are many things he can't yet eat or drink and often it is hard work, but there is plenty that he can! So thank you to everyone that has donated to his therapy, we think it was worth every penny and we couldn't have done it without you, thank you Xx

6 years agoI've been putting off writing this update but I know everyone is keen to know how dad is doing. The test has shown no real improvement. Its also shown an issue with the top of dad's food pipe, but an ENT specialist maybe able to fix that with a procedure. However on a day to day basis he's eating, its hard work and not always enjoyable but the fact he's eating regularly (select foods) is kind of a miracle from where we were. We are enquiring about another round of Vitalstim, knowing more about his problem now we will see if this can help! X
