Story
I met Onias 25 years ago when I was a teacher in a rural school in Zimbabwe. He was the hardest working, most determined kid in my class. His parents sold home grown vegetables to raise enough money for his school fees. I helped pay his exam fees and he did brilliantly, passing 6 British O levels.
He got a good job but the economic situation in Zimbabwe eventually caught up with him and now he's trying to support his wife and three kids with no work and no welfare. Their youngest is 7 months old.
When he can afford to, Onias travels to neighbouring Mozambique to buy a few boxes of fizzy drinks. They are a few cents cheaper there so he can make a little selling them back home.
It is heartbreaking to see such a hard working guy struggling like this.
As determined as ever, Onias has put together a plan to set up a local grocery shop selling maize meal, cooking oil and other staples. If he can raise £2000 to get the business up and running he'll be able to send his kids to school and get his extended family back on their feet.
£2,000 is a lot of money anywhere. In Zimbabwe, for an ordinary person, it's a fortune. Onias has no access to banks or loans, no relatives with money, nothing.
I want to help and so I'm asking for your help too. Anything you can give, no matter how small, would be gratefully received.
Oh the millionaire bit? Yes. Anyone donating £50 or more gets a genuine $50 million Zimbabwean banknote. Experience a little piece of the Zimbabwean economic madness!
From Onias and from me, thank you.

8 years agoIf anyone would like a few million Zimbabwe dollars as a reminder of Onias, Zimbabwe and the help you've given, please just email me at keith.breene@gmail.com. There is plenty to go around and having a $10,000,000 note is cool. It just is.

8 years agoIf you are in need of some good news... thanks to your amazing generosity we've raised enough to enable Onias to rent a small shop and start his business. I wasn't at all sure I'd be able to reach the goal and at times was worried that I'd got Onias's hopes up for nothing but I've been consistently blown away by the kindness of friends, family and strangers. Thank you all so much. I'll be posting a few updates as the shop opens for business. Onias is already buying stock so it shouldn't be long. From Onias, his family and me - THANK YOU

8 years agoWe're a quarter of the way there and Onias has asked me to pass on his heartfelt thanks to everyone who has donated: My Big Thank You guys for donating money towards my project, I'm very grateful. This is a Big Dream for me. If I am able to open a business, I will be able to support my family and life will never be the same again. I never thought one day God would do miracles like this for me. May God bless you and your families for giving me help. Please stay blessed, thank you. Onias bitly.com/onias
