Story

MOTOR NEURONE DISEASE

It can strike suddenly and anyone. Until it happens to us - we don’t realise just what the impact is. However, at Castle Comfort Stairlifts we are aware of this awful, incurable, and cruelly slow, life-ending disease.

First, our town Lord Mayor, Doug Brown lost his life. Then the wife of our own Dr Neil Stirling - a key ambassador for us, suffered the same fate. Endless contacts, friends, and customers with MND have departed from us over the years.

Yet now - one of our own team, who has been with us from the start in 1998, at the heart of our technology department, has received the same tragic, diagnosis.

JAMES GILLIVER - (seen below attending, ironically our MND research fund-raising event years ago)

- remains cheerful, positive, and working as hard as he can for the moment. All against impossible odds. Alongside his wife Lisa, their own funds, essential for initial equipment, are rapidly depleting. An urgent and costly (£25,000) access lift is desperately needed. As this disease progresses, additional products will be essential for James to maintain daily independence, something we all take for granted.

Grants are scarce and authority assistance is zero or at least is an obstructive and bureaucratic minefield. Governments, past (and especially present) seem to have their priorities elsewhere and there is no duty of care. Here's a link to a BBC story on their efforts so far to get some help from the council which unfortunately hasn't succeeded in providing a lift.

So - It’s left to us - friends and business contacts - to help.

We’ve started this with £900. Do what you can folks please - because you never know when, and who, it will strike next.
