On Sunday 24th May, I'm running return legs between the cricket pavilions at Stow and Downham (around 5.3km) every hour for 24 hours. This will equate to roughly three marathons in a day! Why?

For my wider community: in late 2025 our cricket club lost a great friend, Steven 'Bomber' Sexton. Personally, I had known Steven since my early teenage years. Growing up in Downham Market, it was hard not to at least know of Steven given his outgoing nature and distinct, lanky figure. I grew to know him more when he joined Downham Town CC, around the time 'Bomber' was born. More recently, as the clubs merged, he had become a dear friend; to be deemed 'a good skin' by Bomber meant a great deal. Steven is survived by his Son and best friend, Freddie (10). He spent almost every free moment supporting and fostering Freddie's love of cricket and football, and would be infinitely proud that Freddie has been selected for Norfolk this coming summer. Any money raised will be donated to Downham Stow CC and Downham Town FC junior sections.

That money will be gratefully received and be put to good use by both clubs, I am certain. My main purpose, however, is a show of support for Freddie. The cricket club will always be a sanctuary for him, full of people ready to stand-by or step-up when required. I would also like to invite any of Bomber's friends to join me for a leg of the run and share stories - I will need the laughs to keep me going.
