    Story

All of the trustees of MPS care passionately about providing education to the poorest in the area around the area of Shanzu, Mombasa (Kenya). The school has been in existence for over 20 years now and has had great success in progressing children, who otherwise would have little to look forward to, into secondary education and beyond. Funding of pupils at MPS depends mainly on donations received and so when pupils have the promise to progress into secondary education or university unfortunately their families are unable to find funds for this. Mazima Samuel is such a student, he has studied very well at MPS then progressed this with his secondary education achieving a very high mark of B+ in his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education, consequently he has been offered a place at the Masinde Muliro University of Science & Technology to study in the faculty of Science, for a programme leading to a Bachelor of Science. Samuel was offered a Kenya Government assisted place by the Higher Education Loans Board meaning the course fees have been reduced. Even so the costs for Samuel attending the course over the 3 years will amount to £3000,an amount way beyond the affordability of the family - Samuel's mother is a teacher at MPS (earning approximately £1100 per year) and his father has recently been made redundant from a fairly low paid job! Samuel is hoping to start his degree course in September, but clearly can only do so with financial help from elsewhere. Without the education that MPS have been able to provide hundreds of children have very little hope for the future, we have provided that hope and many have found themselves in employment that would otherwise have been impossible. When pupils show determination and aptitude to go even further we will do our best to help, and therefore we ask you to read this with the view that Samuel could educate himself further and as a result make such a difference to many more of his country folk for the future.

Please share this crowdfunding page on your Facebook site. Thank you all who have supported so far, we are making progress. This latest picture shows one of the local villages near Mikoroshoni Primary School, these are the sort of areas our children start the educational journey from! To be able to progress on to secondary education, and then on to gaining a University placement, from these humble beginnings is truly magnificent and those who do, like Samuel, deserve our support.

Samuel’s parents wrote to the trustees before Christmas expressing their desire to help Samuel as best they can, as such they are willing to pay his bus fares and food bills while Samuel attends University as a day student (which in itself saves on costs over the 3 years). His parents know what a difference Samuel’s degree could make and are willing to sacrifice their hard earned wages to help him. So your donation is so much appreciated, Thank You for your help.

Thank you for your support so far which is certainly going to help Samuel achieve his dream. We are very proud of our pupils at MPS, they all come from the poorest surrounding communities of Shanzu and all appreciate the difference an education can make for them. When they achieve high levels of education at MPS we always try to encourage them on further, but often their families just can’t afford it and so we do what we can to find support for them.

I've been associated with Mikoroshoni Primary School since 2011 as trustee and treasurer. We educate children from the poorest local community, if pupils show promise we do our best to help them further . Samuel is one of these pupils, we'd love to help him fulfil his potential.
