Story
Who is ‘Daft as a Brush’?
I have decided to make an attempt at the Joss Naylor Lakeland Challenge on Saturday 2nd September 2017, which is a run across the Lakeland Fells starting at Pooley Bridge in the east and finishing at Wasdale in the west. The route traverses 30 summits over a distance of 48 miles and climbs 17,000 feet (77km, 5182m).
As this challenge is open to those over 50 years old, I qualify!! The time given to complete the challenge is depending on your age. I’ll be 55 years young by the time of my attempt on 2nd September and will have 15 hours to complete the challenge. Not being one for accepting my age – my aim is to complete the challenge in 12 hours and, at the same time, support the charity, ‘Daft as a Brush Patient Cancer Care.’
The charity offers staffed custom-made vehicles, to transport out-patients, free of charge, to and from hospital, who are going through Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy treatment.
I would be most grateful if you would help me raise some funds for this wonderful cause. Please give via this page, your financial sacrifice will be greatly appreciated and will give me a boost when running over those beautiful Lakeland mountain tops.
Thank you

7 years agoI am delighted to tell you that I completed my Joss Naylor Challenge in a time of 11 hours 28 minutes. It was certainly a tough challenge and one that I couldn't have completed without the support of my pacers and family and friends who were there to give me the encouragement I needed on the day. It was also a great pleasure to meet Joss Naylor who waited patiently for me to appear on the horizon and run down to the finish at Greendale Bridge, Wasdale. A sincere thank you to everyone who has supported Daft as Brush

7 years agoDespite all my training, not being able to maintain a pace in-line with the schedule for leg 1 has dented my confidence in being able to complete the challenge in under 12 hours. However, I am confident I will get under 15 hours, the target for my age group and I am even more confident that I will have a great day in the mountains with some very special people, who have willing given up their time to assist me on this challenge. They all know who they are and I am most grateful for their support.

7 years agoOn Bank Holiday Monday I did my last recee, having another look at leg 1 from Pooley Bridge to Kirkstone Pass with Phil Pearson. The 12 hour schedule allows you just 2 hrs 35 minutes for the 16 miles. I knew Phil would be able to set a good pace (he has a very good chance of being crowned Vet 55 English Fell Running Champion on 3rd Sept). Our pace was relentless, but the very strong head wind and the wet conditions under foot made the going tough. Unfortunately, we didn’t make any of the schedule times, reaching Kirkstone Pass 36 minutes down.
