Story

For ages I have wanted to find a special place to have a little hut for books, on the line of the phone box book exchanges but with a difference, Somewhere that you stumble across when out walking, in a hidden corner. I now have A venue for it that couldn’t be more perfect. It’s in the valley where Coleridge wrote Kubla Khan and on the route of the Coleridge way and the swcp and home to Parsonage Farm holiday accommodation where I am lucky to work. It’s Certainly a place to be inspired with whatever your soul desires. A romantic hideaway with stunning views and somewhere to sit and ponder, whilst soaking in the atmosphere, overlooking the sea with rolling hills. it’s not surprising that Coleridge wrote Kubla Khan in this little valley, you can sense the history everywhere. Someone kindly made me a rustic hut with little shelves and I've had books donated that are on the shelves ready, but to get my bookbarn properly up and running I am asking for your help please.

As I was beginning to work on this project lockdown happened and i found myself walking miles to keep me positive and motivated, As I walked more and more miles over lockdown the idea started growing. I found out whilst on my many walks you sometimes get caught in a storm without a Mac, and as a diabetic I sometimes ran out of snacks and wished there was somewhere to grab something when low, or just plain thirsty after a longer hike than intended. So I decided this hut would turn into a place with all these things, a little honesty, borrow or swap hut. My ideas are endless. There will be a book for people to put their thoughts in, to write poems or sketch, which in time i would love to print as a book of these, A collection of creative thoughts from people passing by. I would like it to have maps of walks and will be having a little space to promote local businesses and maybe sell some localproduce.

It will be an ongoing project and over time there will be fundraising events happening. But to get this underway and to make this little dream a reality i need to raise a little bit of money to help fund me. I am relying mostly on donations of sweets and drinks etc, I have found in the past that people are so kind and supportive.

Once it is ready all money donated and raised will go to Diabetes UK, a charity that is very close to my heart.

So this will be the home of the book barn which we have named “A treasure chest for the curious mind” @ the parsonage. I’m Super excited and thankyou for your support.
