Story
Every second matters in an emergency. In cardiac arrest, brain damage can begin in as little as four minutes — and in many situations, the first few minutes before an ambulance arrives can make the difference between life and death. Kelly, a volunteer Community First Responder (CFR) for South East Coast Ambulance Service, is raising funds to bring a dedicated Emergency Cycle Response Unit (e-CRU) to Chichester. These specially adapted e-bikes allow trained responders to reach patients far faster than a car in congested areas, navigating traffic, pedestrianised streets, narrow lanes, parks, and busy public events. Current response times by car can exceed 30 minutes in heavy traffic, while an e-bike responder could arrive in as little as 12–15 minutes.
We are aiming to raise £5,000 to fund the purchase of the specialist e-bike, medical panniers, servicing, and secure bike storage so that this life-saving response unit can operate safely within the Chichester community. This isn’t just about buying a bike — it’s about giving someone’s parent, partner, child, friend, or neighbour a faster chance of survival when every second counts. Whether you donate £5 or £500, every contribution brings this project closer to reality. Together, as a community, we can help emergency care reach people faster, smarter, and more effectively across Chichester and the surrounding area.
