Snehalaya Orphanage for destitute, abused , disabled & orphaned children in Madhya Pradesh state in North India , desperately needs our help . Last winter i volunteered to paint as much of the place as i could , i stayed there for 5 weeks from early January till mid February , painting the entire ground floor of the main building but also spending time with around 70 kids & their carers & staff (all volunteers) . While i was there it quickly became very obvious that they,re being neglected and all but forgotten about . The state of the buildings are falling apart , there is no hot water , no heaters ( hits 0 degrees in winter ) , no fans ( hits 50 degrees in summer ), no showers (cold water buckets !) no washing machines , inadequate clothing and bedding , poor quality & not enough food , no dental care , no toys , sporadic electricity , no furniture , tv , music etc etc.... A part of me will allways be there....
I,m going back this coming January to carry on with the painting project which i plan to complete all of Snehalaya over the coming years . Last year i was quoted the price of 160,000 rupees ( 1850 pounds ) to have 10 water boilers fitted in the accommodation cottages and 2 washing machines installed . With more cash we,ll also buy heaters, install fans , buy , install & operate a power generator ,build a shower block , buy clothes & bedding , pay for regular dental care . better food etc etc etc ......we can really make a difference here .... I would love to be able to take this money back to Snehalaya and get this necessary work done . Its heartbreaking to see how hard life is for the kids , with a bit of generosity and kindness we can all play a part in easing their suffering .
