Story

My name is Kenny Dock and I have worked in mental Health Nursing for the last 15 years. I love my job but it can of course be extremely challenging;

In 2017, 680 suicides were registered in Scotland (522 males and 158 females) Source - Scotpho Scottish trends

I have set a new – slightly daunting – challenge for 2019, to raise awareness on suicide prevention and mental health awareness in Association With SAMH (Scottish association for mental health)

I aim to make my motor racing debut in the Scottish Motor Racing Clubs (SMRC) 2019 Citroen C1 Cup’. Racing 12 times (6 meetings) at Knockhill Racing Circuit throughout 2019, I will carry the Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH) branding on my car and will distribute leaflets on the race days and at any related promotional events to raise awareness on mental health and suicide prevention.

However, this is not just going to be an awareness raising campaign. Having recognised that a significant proportion of the motorsport community falls into the - high suicide risk - male group, I have also arranged for mental health training to be delivered to the Scottish Motor Racing Clubs marshal workforce.

Our aim is to

1-To promote suicide prevention and mental health awareness for those involved in Motorsport. With the hope that all in uk motorsport will recognise our efforts via social media

2-Provide Mental health awareness training for up to 90 volunteer Motorsport Marshalls. Free of Charge..

3-Provide a further 12 Marshalls with secondary training via a 2 day course in Applied suicide intervention skills. Free of charge...

4- Offer information and publications on the great work by SAMH and associated charities

The reason for raising funding

Sadly like everything in life, there is a cost implication to ensure that I can compete in the full season and continue to raise awareness about mental health and suicide prevention. Whilst I have invested in the car and training necessary to get on the grid, I need some help to cover the running costs and final build costs associated with competing for the year (fuel, tyres, Safety equipment, transport etc etc....).

Every single person has their own reasons, they may have had a relationship breakdown, been excluded by their family, been made homeless, lost a career or someone they cared about. Mental health does not discriminate, does not care and is around us all more than ever.

With this in mind, I would be extremely grateful if you could support me by making a donation to my campaign, sharing my story with as many people as possible and coming up to Knockhill to support us this year! See dates below!!!
