    Story

In 2007/08 our country was torn into pieces by tribal violence following the outcome of the presidential election. In 8 months Kenya will again have an election and tribal tension is rising. The group most affected by the violence last time were our young men who were being used as tools for violence. This led to displacement of hundred thousands of people, rape, deaths, violence between neighbours, houses were burnt - our country still carries these scars.

We are a group of volunteers who form a registered, audited - not for profit - The Kenya Boy Child. We come from Nakuru County, one of the worst affected areas. We believe the way to stop our young men from getting involved in violence is through building a supportive community and promoting peace, non-violence and cohesion among young people who come from different tribes.

Beginning 6 months before the election and continuing up until the election we will be hosting a football tournament and campaigns carrying the message of peace throughout the Nakuru County.

So what does football have to do with peace?? There are no tribes on the field.

For the past two years we have hosted tournaments for difference causes, including sexual offences act awareness and promoting entrepreneurship. We have found football is the best way to bring people together in the community on a mass scale to deliver an important message. Last year we had 24 teams, 450 participants play over 32 matches. Each match was an opportunity to deliver the message to the players and community. We estimate we spoke to over to 2500 people; matches, finals and launch event.

This donation will fund 500 young men to participate in the tournament, which includes all their costs, so young men (16-28) from all backgrounds can participate.

That is only £6.00 to sponsor one player.

100% of funds go to non profit, Kenya Boy Child. Follow the progress of your sponsorship on our website
