Salama Jamia Masjid neighbours the first Muslim cemetery in Nairobi that dates back to 1904.

Due to the significant population increase, the residences of Salama (including the masjid) are not receiving basic amenities services such as water, many taps have dried up for the last decade.

The lack of water has forced both the masjid and residence of Salam to buy water from vendors.

It is in the light of the water challenge that we propose a borehole to be dug at Salama Jamia Masjid to benefit the muslims in the masjid, cemetery and nearby communities around the masjid including an adjacent school.

PROJECT BREAK DOWN

Phase one: Documentation

Application and acquiring of borehole drilling license from various government authorities (Water Resource Management Authority).
Hydrogeological survey of the land around the Masjid to determine the depth of water and suitability of such water for human consumption. This process will determine the cost of the borehole.

Cost: KES 150, 000 (Approximately £1145.00)

Phase two: Drilling

The estimated depth around Nairobi is around 160-200meters, thus the estimated cost of drilling borehole in Nairobi City is KES 2- 2.3 Million
(Approximately £15,000- £17,000)

Status: Not started.

Phase Three: Installation

Purchasing and installation of borehole pump, water storage and plumbing
Cost: KES 800, 000. (Approximately £7000)
Status: Not started.

ESTIMATED TOTAL COST £25,000

(We have managed to raise through private donations. We are need of £10,000. We have people on the ground and will keep accounts in a record book with all receipts etc)
