Story
I have been volunteering at the Boys Industrial Home and Orphanage in Colombo 06 for approximately 6 months. I go weekly to assist with reading and learning English.
The conditions that these lovely boys live in are nothing short of squalid. It is unbelievable in this day and age that children are housed in these conditions. However, the boys are happy and loved.
Where the home lacks in material comforts it provides the boys with love, care and nurturing.
Many of the boys are from tragic backgrounds and are quite traumatized when they arrive at BIH, within a short period they are comfortable and more relaxed in the loving environment.
The home is running on a ‘hand to mouth’ existence and relies on donations from the public for food items, clothing, toiletries, school supplies etc.
I am fundraising for a day trip to take the boys on a coach to a water park called Leisure world, I would also like to take the boys to a restaurant on the way back.
Any surplus that is raised will go to fund school bags, stationery and basic clothing.

5 years agoThe smile says it all! yesterday was an amazing day and we are all so grateful to you for your donations. The boys took a coach to the Induruwa Turtle sanctuary and had a tour, then we all went to a beautiful beach hotel for the day where they ate and drank literally all day! The hotel gave us an entertainer who did party games with the boys , then swimming and playing volleyball in the beautiful pool. The boys were absolutely delighted and were happy and exhausted on the way home. Most of them had a sleep on the way back they were so tired!

5 years agoSo this happened half an hour ago..a precious moment when I revealed the poster showing details of the forthcoming daytrip..some were stunned and speechless, others giggly and excited. All were extremely happy! Thankyou all so much x

5 years agoThe day trip next Wednesday will be very exciting as many of the boys have never been on a coach. They will be collected at 0730 and travel to the hotel about 2 hours away. On arrival, they will have breakfast, the day will be split between the beautiful hotel and the turtle conservation sanctuary next door. After an extravagant lunch and evening snacks we will take the boys home. Any donations left over will be used towards the next trip or mattresses which are desperately needed. thankyou
