Our mother travelled to Lanzarote with our father and family friends for a 10 day vacation. Three days in, our mother fell seriously ill - it was June 19th, their 42nd wedding anniversary.
Mum was due to fly home on June 26th but she is still in hospital. She was diagnosed with double pneumonia, pulmanory thrombosis and internal bleeding.
Sadly, we have now been told she has stage 4 cancer. We are heartbroken! Myself, my sister and brother have flown out to be with our parents to get her home.
The travel insurance are stalling, avoiding our telephone calls and e-mails, despite having all of her medical records and promising us they will get her home. The hospital here are waiting for an air ambulance to take her home and have said it is the insurance who are delaying us. She could get vital treatment back in the UK but she is being denied her basic human right to be allowed home.
We are now taking matters into our own hands and looking to get a private air ambulance to bring our mother home!
This is precious time with our mother. We shouldn't be on our phones constantly battling with the insurance company! We will never get this time again.
Our mum knows she has cancer but she does not know it's terminal. She's too weak to know and we don't want her laying in bed full of fear.
My mum has a heart of gold, very selfless and will do anything for anyone. She is the most beautiful woman I know, and it kills me so much that not only am I losing my mum but the struggle to fly her home has been mentally and physically exhausting.
Meals have been missed, sleep is little... We just want our mum home. We love her SO much, and she deserves to come home.

Because we love our mum, we did everything we possibly could for her when everything else failed us. Up to our eyeballs in debt! £30,000+ to fly her home! The doctor who flew with her promised he would do everything he could to keep her alive, and she's still here!
It was worth every single penny!! She is worth so much to us, so much more - you only get one mum and ours is an incredibly strong woman.
