Stefan Edwards is just a little 5 year old boy from St.helens, Merseyside. This year on Stefans 5th birthday he along with his mummy and daddy found out that Stefan had a rare form of cancer called Parapharangeal Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma.
This is an aggressive type of cancer that affects around 60 children in the UK each year. This type of cancer cannot be treated here in the UK. Stefan is currently receiving chemo therapy here in the UK at Alder Hay hospital in Liverpool but requires more intensive treatment over in the United States. So Stefan, along with his parents has to travel to the USA for a treatment called Proton beam therapy. This has a very strong chance of curing Stefans cancer. Thankfully the NHS have agreed to fund the treatment.
Stefan and his parents will need to stay in the USA for 3 months until Stefans Proton Beam Therapy is complete.
