Story
The person in the video is my friend Kevin, fronting anti smoking campaign after being diagnosed with cancer. The picture that you will see was taken a year or so later was after we arranged for one of Kev’s favourite boxers, Kell Brook to speak to him. There is also a link to an article the Manchester Evening News published all about Kevin's fight against this horrible disease.
Kev was a massive boxing fan. He loved the tenacity of @bomberbellew, him being a staunch Evertonian helped. Despite my feelings for @eddiehearn Kev assured me frequently that he was the saviour of British boxing. After the signings of @carlcobrafroch and @DarrenBarker82 I started to believe. The highlight was when one of his favourite fighters @specialkellbrook took the time to FaceTime him. That memory, Kev’s tears, will last a lifetime.
He was also looking forward to being best man our best mates wedding in July.
Sadly though in May of this year Kev passed away following a courageous battle with cancer.
Kev left his beautiful wife Clare with no husband and two amazing young children Freddie and Ava with no father. Kevin was 39 years old. He was the provider, the breadwinner.
When Kev left us he had no life insurance leaving a broken hearted family with an uncertain future. Nothing can or will ever fill the void.
This year I am running the Wirral Marathon. I want to raise money for a good cause. Instead of a charity I would like to donate any money I raise for Clare, Freddie and Ava.
It won’t change much, it won’t bring Kev back. However, the money might pay for them to have a little holiday, days out or pay for essentials like school uniforms. Just stuff that most of us take for granted.
I urge you, beg you, to sponsor me. Every single penny will make a difference. Even just giving the price of a pint. It might make the most beautiful family smile...even if it’s just for a moment.
Thank you.
