Kevin’s 4x4x48 challenge, supporting children’s charity The Gap*

Kevin Ashfield, UK Development Director at IM Properties, has decided to take on the “David Goggins 4x4x48 Challenge” this weekend – running 4 miles, every 4 hours, for 48 hours! Starting this evening, Friday 5th March at 8PM, Kevin will be taking to the streets to join a community of runners all over the world who are sharing the common goal of promoting physical and mental health whilst supporting amazing charitable causes!

Here’s why Kevin chose to take part, and more about the local charity he is raising money for:

“I have been using fitness and exercise during lockdown to continue to improve my wellbeing, both physically and mentally. I wanted to set myself a big challenge having completed my first ever half marathon 2 weeks ago. I heard about the 4x4x48 challenge last weekend which hasn't given me any time to train specifically for the event but I saw this as a great opportunity to really test myself and give something back by raising money for a local charity at the same time.

I was keen to support a charity that helps young people, particularly with their mental health given how tough life can be for children, especially in the current climate with Covid. Sutton Coldfield based charity, The Gap* was the perfect option to support. The Gap* is a charity committed to improving opportunities for excluded and marginalised young people by helping them develop their skills and abilities irrespective of their circumstances, backgrounds, or situations, for them to participate in society as mature, responsible adults.

I first became aware of The Gap* through the Peddimore Community fund, a fund IM Properties set up as part of its Social Value commitments at our Peddimore Birmingham scheme. The charity applied for funding for their Headspace project which aims to support young people between the ages of 11 to 22 who are experiencing difficulties with their mental health and wellbeing as they transition into adulthood. Their vital work is reliant on volunteers working on a one to one basis with young people to give them the opportunity to share and explore their thoughts and feelings or to get advice and guidance. I hope that whatever funds I raise can go towards a similar programme.”

If you’d like to support me through this challenge, please consider donating any amount you can - a donation to the charity is a step towards helping young people understand and be open with their mental health and help them transition into adulthood. Wish me luck!”
