Story

As people may or may not know The Basement Recovery Project in Halifax is an award winning forward thinking
not-for-profit organisation which helps individuals conquer addiction.
I was in the madness (addiction) for many years not knowing who I was or what I was doing, the more used, the more I lost control of every aspect of my life.
After many prison sentences and being removed from my family home because of my issues I finaly was at my rock bottom where things couldn't get any worse.
I was introduced to the basement project 2 and a half years ago and life started moving forward. Knowing that the place was run by addicts for addicts really put my mind at ease because the people that help rebuild your life have had to rebuild theirs at some point. This told me that they knew what they were talking about and it worked for them so it could work for me.
2 years 3 months clean now and I still go to the Basement every day and I'm as welcomed now as I was on day one, the love never stops.
They have become more than just friends, they are a massive extension to my family who I think the world of.
They have given me life changing opportunities which I'm eternally grateful for.
Now my family are happy, I'm happy and I'm now a productive member of society rather than a drain on resources as I once was.
I am running the Great North Run this year in order to raise money for the basement which will be a massive achievement considering two and a bit years ago I couldn't even get out of bed to face another day.
Dig as deep as you can.
This place does save lives
