I'm raising £550 to Help Make Women Safer, Stronger, and More Confident

Story

I’m raising £550 in support of Karate for Mental Health CIC to fund a Women’s Self-Protection Workshop for women from disadvantaged backgrounds, including those living with mental and physical disabilities.

This funding will allow us to provide free access to a 5-hour self-protection workshop in Guildford — removing financial barriers for women who need these skills the most.

Over the past months, we’ve applied to several funding bodies. While the feedback was clear that this project is needed, we were repeatedly told there was no funding available, despite the reality that Guildford has the highest rate of sexual assaults against women in Surrey.

We strongly believe that prevention, awareness, and practical self-protection skills are social welfare. Giving vulnerable women confidence, boundaries, and tools to protect themselves has a real and lasting impact — not just on individuals, but on the wider community.

That’s why we decided to take action ourselves.

Originally, we planned to run three workshops, but with your help we’ll start with one fully funded course — and build from there.

Where Your Money Goes

Every pound raised will go directly towards:

Hiring a qualified instructor for a 5-hour women’s self-protection workshop

Hiring the venue in Guildford

The course will be delivered by a highly experienced female self-protection instructor, with extensive experience working with girls and young women across India, Europe, and the UK.

We believe it’s vital that this course is taught by a woman, to ensure participants feel safe, understood, and comfortable in a supportive environment.

Why This Matters

This isn’t about fear.

It’s about confidence, awareness, boundaries, and choice.

It’s about giving women tools they can carry for life.

If you believe that women’s safety and mental wellbeing matter, and that access to self-protection skills should not depend on income or circumstance, please consider supporting us.

Every donation — big or small — brings us closer to making this workshop a reality.

Thank you for standing with us.

Thank you for supporting women.

Thank you for helping us make a real difference.
