I've raised £2534 to provide training and resources for Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centre staff in Khilang village and surrounding villages, Kaski, Nepal.

Khilang village is a 7 hour walk or 3 hours on a bus from the nearest tarmac road. It is a remote village in the Himalayas, in the Kaski District of Nepal. There is a primary school (up to Class 8) and an Early Childhood Development (ECD) centre. In recent years, successful improvements have been made to the primary school with some support from NGOs such as Global Action Nepal and with financing from a variety of fundraising events and from Khilang people who have relocated abroad. To date, there has been no support given to the ECD centre and no additional training provided for the ECD centre staff (2 teachers).
Children at the ECD centre are aged between 2-4 and attend the ECD centre prior to joining school. Children spend all day together in a small hut, with very basic facilities. Further training will help the teachers to become more resourceful and to better meet the children's needs. Provision of basic resources will improve the quality of care and education offered by the ECD centre for the children.
I am currently arranging training with local ECD trainers for the Khilang ECD staff. We hope to include other staff from surrounding villages in this training. During the training the participants will be asked to provide a list of resources which they need. Money raised will pay for the cost of training, food and accommodation provided by other villagers during the training (for those coming from elsewhere) and for resources to be provided after the training.
