    Story

Watching Channel 4's Dispatches on children growing up in poverty was absolutely heartbreaking and shocking but unfortunately it's not unusual these days.

    Video clip https://www.vice.com/en_uk/article/zmjpw9/dispatches-growing-up-poor-kids-food-banks

An estimated 8.4 MILLION people in the UK are struggling to get enough to eat, that's 1 in 4 children, which includes households in ANGUS!

And it's not just unemployed people suffering. 1,808 of those people were from working households which means we now have what's being called "In - Work Poverty"

Food-banks in Angus fed 4,627 people this year, 1,283 of which were children!!

That's an increase of 25% over the previous year which means food poverty is rising NOT decreasing.

In this day and age it's JUST NOT ACCEPTABLE and we're determined to try and help.

I'm part of Community First and we have been working very hard to find a way to support people in our community suffering from poverty and in particular FOOD POVERTY and although we are a few months off from launching our plan, after watching the Channel 4 dispatches programme, we feel we need to do something as quickly as possible.

We want to open a Social Supermarket where food can be bought at an extremely reduced and affordable price, where there is no stigma and people can shop with choice and dignity.

We have just about everything in place to do this except premises.

We've found a suitable shop but we need to raise enough money to secure it and kit it out with basic shelving.

If, like us, you feel people, especially children like Courtney and her sisters should NOT, in this day and age and in one of the richest countries in the world, be going hungry and suffering from food poverty please help us help them by supporting our Angus based Social Supermarket.

    Thank you,

    Pauline

PS...... So far over 400 people have viewed the page but only 28 very generous people have donated. If every person who views the page can donate even just a couple of pounds, it honestly fairly mounts up so if you're having a wee look, please consider if you can just going one step further and hit the donate button too. Thank you xx
