Story

Myself, Brandon Crichton, Euan Hay, Zak Hendry & Thomas Hendry will be taking on one of the uk’s hardest hiking challenges on the 25th of July the Welsh 3000, the challenge is summit all 15 of the 3000 feet mountains in wales within 24 hour time period, the route is over 30 miles long with roughly 4200 meters elevation gain, it covers 3 main mountain ranges. The timer starts at the top of the first mountain (Crib Goch) and will end at the top of the 15th mountain (Foel- Fras). This climb has been on my bucket list for many years now and I finally had the courage to challenge myself and do this journey for the right cause. I have decided to choose two amazing charities, that are close to my heart and try and raise as much money as I can in this process.
First charity is St Margaret’s of Scotland hospice- My dad got diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis in 2023 and was waiting on a match for a double lung transplant. The doctors managed to find a match in 2024 but the lungs were infected so the operation never went ahead, my family managed to get him a room in the hospice on May 2024 and died in the hospice 30th of may 2024 at age 54. This is the place my dad finally felt in comfortable and safe. The staff are the hospice are one in a million and helped my dad through so much, he loved every single one of the them. The hospice relay on donations to keep this place running so I want to do my best to help these amazing staff members with funding.
The second charity is Alzheimer’s Scotland- My mum got diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia in 2007 at age 39 and sadly after battling it many years she passed away 8th of November 2015 at age 48, watching my mum go through such a horrible illness at a young age has taught me so much in life and to live it to the fullest. All the carers my mum received at the house were amazing especially her one to one carer Lorna Graham. Once my mum wasn’t safe to live at the house she then moved to the joint hospital Dumbarton the staff don’t get the praise they deserve, every single one of them are amazing.
Any donations would be appreciated to help towards these two amazing charities, once money is raised it will be split eventually to both.
