    Story

    Kilmarnock Rugby Football Club was founded in 1868 and is the 4th oldest rugby club in Scotland.

    It is now almost 50 years since the facilities at Bellsland were originally opened and Kilmarnock Rugby Club finally had a home of our own. Within a few years the clubhouse was expanded and new changing and showering facilities and a stand were added. These facilities matched our ambition and were the envy of many clubs back in the day –but they are in desperate need of upgrading as we head into our 150th anniversary year.

    There is an urgent need to bring the changing facilities up to a standard which complies with the modern need to have a more modest approach to such areas. This will cost between £150,000 and £350,000 depending on the final designs and structure. Upgrade of the clubhouse, although perhaps not so pressing, can be expected to cost a similar amount in due course.

    KRFC has a tremendous reputation for encouraging youngsters and ladies to come to Bellsland for coaching and training in increasing numbers. It is also a source of some pride that Bellsland was the birthplace of Trust Rugby International – www.trustrugby.org - which has now grown to include ‘Clan’ teams elsewhere in Scotland as well as England and Spain. Our changing facilities are no longer suitable to accommodate all these diverse groups and, indeed, fall short of the preferred standard requested by both Sport Scotland and the SRU. Although these organisations can provide grant funding to help facilitate the changes we require to implement, we still require to bring our own financial contribution to the table to access these funds.

    This is where you come in.

    Many have enjoyed great times at Bellsland regardless of our playing abilities and whether we learned the game there or joined later in our rugby careers as a player, social member, spectator or with a visiting team. We have made great friendships and bonds. Most importantly – we have wonderful memories of the place. As we celebrate 150 years in 2018 we want to build the foundations for such memories for future generations. As we saw 50 years ago – improved facilities not only attract talented players at all levels, but help retain them and see the club move forward.

    Are you able to make a donation towards the upgrade of the changing facilities ? If so, there are a number of ways to do so;

    -By posting a cheque payable to Kilmarnock Rugby Football Club to Bellsland.

    -Contacting us at kilmarnockrfc@hotmail.com to discuss other ways to donate or help.

    -Of course, you can donate through this crowd funding platform. There is no amount to large or too small - your donation will be warmly received.

    We believe that KRFC can head back towards the top of Scottish club rugby. We have a proud past and can have a promising future.

    Any support you can give is most welcome and greatly appreciated.

    We look forward to hearing from you – and seeing you at Bellsland soon !
