A very close, long serving, and much loved colleague of ours has recently had their life turned upside down and changed beyond recognition due to an unexpected tragedy in the family.

After already suffering through one close family member falling seriously ill, their spouse has had a severe stroke, with loss of memory and other brain functions. While there have been very mild improvements, such as memory recovery, these have often lasted no longer than 24 hours.

With the future uncertain and the possibility that they may now not only be a carer for their spouse, but also the main bread winner in the house, financial worries will be weighing down heavily on top of the emotional.

While we can sadly do very little for the latter we would at least like to help alleviate the former as much as we can.

I know it is slightly unorthodox not to reveal the identity of the person in question but we felt that as they are unaware of this campaign we should respect their right to privacy and just hope this does not have too detrimental an effect on the amount raised. I'm sure many, if not most of you know who I am referring to.

Their short absence so far has already been missed by many, and felt by all.
