Story
Thanks for taking the time to read my JustGiving page, I really appreciate it!
In May 2019, I will be commuting to Nakuru, Kenya, for two weeks on an amazing volunteering project, with the Derby County Community Trust (DCCT) in partnership with African Adventures, on the 'Rams in Kenya' project. I will be working alongside other volunteers, supporting children and their families who live in some of the poorest areas of Kenya.
Derby County Community Trust have been making a difference to the lives of many children located in this area of Kenya for seven years now. The project started in 2012 and volunteers have contributed to children's daily lives by installing running water, supporting teachers and providing resources to boost the children's education, as well as developing classrooms and completing site improvements. Each year, the development in Nakuru continues to grow, helping more and more children access resources that they were unable to receive previously.
Since the Rams in Kenya 2018 project this year, a new library was built in Jubilee, as well as 5 new classrooms and a supply of books for all year groups, an outer classroom was constructed in Uganda, and repairs made to school gates. As well as this, food was provided to 109 children over a two month period and two new classrooms were beginning to be constructed. Finally, in Mama Kerry, running water was installed and a new classroom built with the inclusion of a new water tank. All this in two weeks, how amazing is this!
During the 2019 project that I will be volunteering on, we will be;
• Assisting with teaching
• Constructing new facilities for children to use, e.g. classrooms, kitchens, toilets
• Helping to develop teaching styles and the curriculum
• Helping with nutrition and feeding programmes in the schools
As a trainee teacher, not only will this be an amazing experience for me but it will in turn help develop my abilities as a teacher, helping children to learn using the facilities that they have, understanding diversity and how to teach education to those who know little of it, but mainly, simply making a difference to the lives of as many children as I can in the space of time that I have.
The video link below demonstrates the difference that the Rams in Kenya have made and aim to continue to make.

Any donation, no matter how big or small will really be appreciated! This is not just including money, we are looking for donations children's clothes, shoes ( a luxury that these children do not have) and stationary that we can provide the children with when we visit the schools, helping them to develop their education. This is not only a rewarding project to be a part of, it is a life changing experience that I cannot wait to be a part of.
Thank-you
Kira.
